Smart Phone is a Good Tool to Search for Information
Smartphones have long been used as a search tool for information.
When you open up your Instagram dashboard, you'll find lots of information about good restaurants, places you want to travel, recipes you want to cook, and shops you want to visit.
You can easily find the information you care about later by taking notes using features such as favorites and bookmarks provided by the app.
Even Convenient Smartphones are Inconvenient to Organize Information across Apps
On the other hand, each smartphone app is independent, and information linkage between apps is very limited. It's not easy to find a restaurant on Instagram, check it by another restaurant app such as OpenTable, and make a reservation.
You can't link your Instagram post to the store's official site, or copy the address on the description and search for directions on Google Maps.
It's not just Instagram, other apps are also basically doing closed content management within the app.
Possible reasons for this include:
Protection of content rights
Clarity of the scope of business responsibilities
Technical constraints
I will not explain each of them, but from the user's point of view, it is very inconvenient to coordinate information across applications on smartphones.
SnapRu Makes Organizing Information Easier!
SnapRu solves this problem in a very primitive way. It's copy and paste.
Copy-paste is a way to copy selected text from a graphical user interface (GUI), temporarily store it in a buffer called the clipboard, and then paste the text elsewhere.
Copy-paste is commonly used on personal computers, and it is also provided as a standard function on smartphones.
Some apps, like Instagram, don't allow you to copy and paste. There is a restriction that you cannot copy text sentences such as comments or reviews posted by users.
The main reason for this restriction seems to be the content rights protection mentioned earlier. From the perspective of a company that does business with content, I think it's natural to control reuse of contents.
On the other hand, from the user's point of view, it is very inconvenient not to be able to copy the name and address of the store in the user's comments. You have to memorize the name of the store you found on Instagram or write it down on a piece of paper and use the keyboard to enter the name of the store in a search field of another App. It is very troublesome, and with such advanced digital technology, why should we rely on memorization and paper?
Enabling Copy-Pasting with Image Recognition Technology
SnapRu solves this problem with image recognition technology.
You take a screenshot of an app where you can't copy text, and the App will recognize the text in the screenshot and output it as text.
The output text can be copied and pasted, and it is freely available to the user. You can search information by the name of the restaurant you copied, or you can check the address you copied with the Map app.
The performance and accuracy of image recognition technology are limited, and text output takes time and characters may not be recognized correctly, but it is very useful in situations where you cannot copy and paste at all.
I think SnapRy is a convenient application for those who search and organize information on their smartphones.
Everyone, please try it!
